Visioning and Goal-setting in the Real Estate Business

Now that we’ve covered all of the bases for planning in Q4, I think it’s important to draw some distinctions between the different components in our planning process. In this week’s episode of Pursuing Freedom, I want to talk specifically about the breakdown of vision and goals in the real estate business. A lot of times we use these terms interchangeably, but there is a difference between your visioning process and your goal-setting process. They are married together, but visioning affects us on a macro-level, while goal setting affects us on a micro-level. Learn how the two processes work together so you can identify what truly matters to you now and design a business that aligns with your values.


The visioning process is big-picture in the real estate business. It is an ongoing process where we think about what we’ve accomplished so far, and dream about what our lives will look like in the future! It’s daydreaming with reckless abandon, in order to create an action plan that supports our outcomes. It is the process we can use to immerse ourselves in the feelings of success, confidence, optimism, and accomplishment! Visioning helps us feel what it would be like if everything in our lives was going right.


Once you get into the right headspace, and you’re able to envision the life you want, goal setting is the next step in the process. If you know my story, you know that flying by the seat of your pants in the real estate business is not going to cut it! To achieve the level of success and freedom you desire, you need concrete goals that align with your lifestyle vision. If you want your life and business to look a certain way, what will it take to get there? What is the timeframe you need to accomplish this goal? These are the questions to ask yourself as you set your goals for the new year, and beyond. Both components are extremely important, and by understanding how visioning feeds into goal setting, you can create a more accurate roadmap to get where you’re trying to go!
